A Classic Brisket Recipe with Coca Cola

With just four ingredients, this is one of the easiest brisket recipes you'll ever make.

Brisket is one of those tough cuts of meat that is just perfect for braising or slow cooking. This brisket recipe is one of the easiest you'll ever make. It has just four ingredients. You slow cook it in the oven for about three hours, and when it is done, it practically melts in your mouth.

You will need to use regular Coca-Cola for this recipe. The sugar in the soda tenderizes the meat. Substituting diet soda won't give you the proper results.

Although this beef brisket is relatively high in calories and fat, it is a good source of protein, iron and vitamin C.

If you have the extra time, make this brisket the day before you plan to serve it. The juices will have plenty of time to redistribute, and it will taste even better than serving it fresh.

Brisket is traditionally served for Rosh Hashana, Hanukkah and many other Jewish holidays. Noodle kugel, potato latkes and homemade roasted applesauce are all nice accompaniments to beef brisket. Green beans with tomatoes makes a nice green side dish with this meal, and vegetarian chopped liver makes a festive appetizer. To cool the palate, try lemon cool whip jello for dessert.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Trim meat of as much fat as possible.
  3. Place the brisket in a 9 x 13 shallow baking pan and sprinkle with the dry onion soup mix.
  4. Top with the chili sauce.
  5. Pour the Coca-Cola over top. With a spoon, spread the chili sauce all over the brisket to make sure all of the meat is covered.
  6. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven 3 to 4 hours or until brisket is fork tender.
  7. Important: Remove the brisket from the oven, and let it rest for at least 20 minutes. This will give the meat time for the juices to re-distribute.
  8. Slice thinly against the grain.

Make 8 servings.
