The juiciest burger recipes are also the ones with the most fat. Is it possible to make a juicy burger with less fat? Indeed, it is, thanks to a secret ingredient.
The best tasting hamburger recipes are typically made with 80 percent to 85 percent lean ground beef. That means 15 to 20 percent of your burger is fat. Of course, it's the fat that makes the burgers taste so good. So how do you make a juicy hamburger with less fat?
That was the challenge.
The solution: Add a great-tasting, moistening ingredient to the beef. In these lean and juicy burgers, it's black bean dip. Whether you make your own homemade black bean dip or use a prepared black bean dip, you'll be adding fiber, protein and iron to your burgers, as well as something to make the burgers moist. That makes this one of the healthiest and tastiest burger recipes you'll ever find.
You can top these Juicy Southwestern Burgers with avocado salsa, guacamole dip, or even a roasted red pepper tapenade. Serve them with sweet potato fries and a crunchy broccoli salad for an outdoor feast everyone will love.
Preheat a cast iron grill pan over medium high heat or prepare an outdoor grill. Mix ground beef and black bean dip together, being careful not to handle any more than you have to (overmixing can cause the burgers to become tough). Shape the beef into four to five patties, packing them firmly. Spray the grill pan with nonstick cooking spray. Season the patties with kosher salt on both sides. Cook burgers for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, depending on how you like them. Remove burgers from heat and allow to rest at least ten minutes before serving.
Toast the hamburger buns and top the burgers with pickled jalapeno peppers, more black bean dip, avocado salsa, guacamole, roasted red pepper tapenade or just ketchup and lettuce.
